Why We Picked Cut the Rope 2

What Cut the Rope 2 gets right is dragging pieces into place, with a control scheme you already know from the sport. Short halves, no commentary, and a difficulty that does not secretly change the physics. A second player turns a good match into a better argument. It is arcade handling with the real rules, and that combination is rarer than it should be. By the numbers: 56 of 183 on the adventure shelf, 4.5 out of 5 from 298 ratings, and 11.7K plays.

How to Play

Three rules cover almost everything this game asks of you:

  • Pick a piece up with the pointer, drag it into place, and let go.
  • Score more than the opposition before the clock runs out, and defend the lead rather than extending it.
  • Click once inside the frame to give it keyboard focus when the controls feel dead.

Editor’s Note

Better with two people on one keyboard, and still fine alone against the computer. The handling is arcade rather than simulation, and it does not apologise for that.

Om Nom is hungry again, and in Cut the Rope 2 the little green monster's candy hunt comes back with fresh tricks, new characters, and puzzles that are more devious than ever. This physics-based phenomenon charmed millions of players with its original run, and the sequel keeps everything that worked while layering on clever new mechanics that change how you think about every single level.

The core idea stays beautifully simple: a piece of candy dangles from ropes, and you swipe or click and drag to cut those ropes so gravity, momentum, and timing deliver the treat into Om Nom's waiting mouth. Each stage also hides stars along the candy's path, and collecting them is the real test of skill.

Where the sequel shines is its new gameplay elements and missions. Helpful creatures join the fun, each with an ability that shifts the puzzle, whether that means tossing the candy, catching it mid-flight, or reshaping the stage itself. Obstacles arrive in unexpected combinations, so a level that looks familiar can still surprise you with a twist you have never seen before.

Difficulty ramps up gracefully. Early stages teach one idea at a time, while later levels demand chained moves where a fraction of a second decides success or failure. My advice: study the whole level before making your first cut, cut ropes in a deliberate order rather than all at once, and use each creature's ability exactly once to see what it does before planning your real attempt.

Anyone who liked the original will love this, and newcomers who enjoy thoughtful physics puzzles will be hooked fast. It plays free right in the browser on desktop and mobile alike.
