Why We Picked Broom
Broom borrows the real rules and the arcade handling, in that order. It asks for the ball, the clock and the space between them while the other side does the same, which is the whole tension of the genre. Fewer rules than the real thing, and the same scoreline at the end. The handling is honest, and a browser sport that gets the ball right has done the hard part. By the numbers: 362 of 500 on the arcade shelf, 4.1 out of 5 from 22 ratings, and 1,031 plays.
How to Play
The page documents very little, so these are the things worth knowing before you spend time on it:
- Switch to a wired connection if the frame keeps reloading itself in the middle of a round.
- Finish the match ahead, and accept that a browser sport rarely asks for more than that.
- Pass early; the ball travels faster than the player does.
Editor’s Note
Matches are short, so a lost one costs three minutes rather than an evening. It is a match, a scoreline and a restart button, and nothing else is asked of you.
