Why We Picked Badland
Badland is built around the route through the level, and the level design does the explaining that the text does not. The art does the storytelling that the script does not. It is generous with retries and stingy with hints, which is the better combination. Position 119 of 183 undersells it slightly; the games above are longer, not better made. By the numbers: 4.4 out of 5 from 45 ratings.
How to Play
The page documents very little, so these are the things worth knowing before you spend time on it:
- Use the fullscreen button if the game frame sits small in the column.
- Get through the route in one piece; the retry is cheaper than the detour.
- Look down before you jump; most missed landings are a step too far.
Editor’s Note
It asks for patience with the controls on a phone, where the buttons cover part of the view. The checkpoint spacing is generous enough that a bad jump costs seconds.

BADLAND is an award-winning atmospheric side-scrolling action adventure platformer set in a gorgeous forest full of various inhabitants, trees and flowers.
