Why We Picked 2048 Hex Chain Merge

Hex tiles give every cell six neighbors, so one placement opens more merge lines than a square grid ever would, and the board rewards planning two moves out. The goal is to chain matching tiles upward toward the largest value while keeping somewhere safe to put the next one. The publisher's description is a single sentence, which means the rules have to explain themselves on the board, and they mostly do so without much help.

How to Play

Three things decide whether a run here goes well:

  • Place each tile next to a matching one so the pair merges into a higher value.
  • Keep merging upward toward the largest tile while leaving yourself room to maneuver later.
  • Work the board toward one corner so new tiles cannot strand your highest piece.

Editor’s Note

Short sessions, no story, and almost no documentation beyond the title of the game itself. It rewards a tidy board far more than fast decisions, and one careless placement is genuinely hard to undo.
